Art Post 5 Learning in Isolation, Some Thoughts
Hello there! Today I want have a casual chat about socializing and learning. They can be big (sometimes tough) topics but I guess we’ll just start with a light conversation?
Why do artists benefit from being with other artists? I’m not exactly people extraordinaire, but I do crave some company with other creative people sometimes. Why? That mysterious feeling of wanting to see art? To enjoy a little competition? To try and see inside others’ minds and try to understand what they’re trying to say? To see how they are accomplishing something close to what I want to accomplish? To be around one’s peers?
Learning in isolation can be tough. Does anyone else struggle with even finding the correct words to use for art? Do you struggle finding the names for particular styles or techniques? I am self-conscious not knowing art language sometimes. Do you struggle with finding out how things in art industries work? Or that there are very specific jobs people do?
For example, I did not know that inking was even a thing until I ended up in an inking evening class. I knew about the existence of line art, and went through my own attempts at it, but I didn’t know there were people who did this for a living. From there, later I learned online that there are multiple ways to do it, even if you struggle with it. Some professional artists even create an illusion of line art.
In my own current inking phase, I’m trying to keep it loose, not worry about being 100% perfect, and stick to the feeling of my sketch.
Well these were just a few thoughts I wanted to share. Thank you for reading, I hope they were of any use to you.
See you later!
