Journal 30 Turkey Acquired
Hello there. How has your week been? The weather in New Jersey has been getting nippier.
A couple days ago, I found out that there are PFAS in many butter wrappers. And the brand I am currently using, Kerrygold grass-fed butter, is the number one worst. A day in the life.
Thanksgiving is coming up. The adult parents went to Costco, saw organic turkeys being sold, and called to ask if they were okay to get. We look up the brand, and learn that there are currently lawsuits against the company for inhumane treatment of turkeys. Terrible.
Organic is not enough anymore. It’s like brands are becoming a sign of quality again. We like Bell and Evans chicken because of the better treatment of the chickens and the high quality. For eggs, Vital Farms Restorative Eggs. For milk, Maple Hill Creamery seems to be a solid choice found in grocery stores. Currently, we are sampling Nancy’s brand for yogurt and kefir. Many of these egg and dairy choices change over the years.
Researching for a humanely raised turkey, we saw that a regenerative turkey can be around $300 for a 20 pounder. Prices are so high these days. We were going to make two chickens instead, but found smaller 10-12 pound pastured turkeys sold from the brand Diestel for around $100.
Thank you for visiting my site and reading my entries. I appreciate it so much! Hope you have a great week ahead!
