Journal 32 Thanksgiving Special
🦃 Thanksgiving Special 🦃
Hello! Today we celebrated Thanksgiving. The olds went out, so it was just us three.
It was a rainy day. We cooked all day and tried to unwind, but it took a little bit of time. Before it was even dark, I just wanted to close the curtains, turn on the lights, and put on a Christmas movie.
I am in the mood to celebrate Christmas this year. Normally, this time of year is excruciating for me, but this year I feel like enjoying it for myself. This last year was so hard that I feel like I need to celebrate Christmas. Traditional Christmas stories are resonating with me this year.
Our meal was lovely: the turkey, dressing, potatoes, broccoli rabe, and cranberry sauce. The turkey meat tasted very clean and the flavor was good. We cooked it one hundred percent plain --no salt, pepper, seasoning, or stuffing– overnight at a low temperature, wrapped in parchment paper and aluminum. Cooking the turkey overnight is a great technique!
We made the turkey plain so that our cat could eat it too. She enjoyed it very much. Here is a picture of the turkey:
Looking forward to leftovers and using the bones for bone broth. All of the other dishes were pretty mild too. The dressing was the fanciest thing we made, using pancetta, prunes, and chestnuts.
Thank you for reading and Happy Thanksgiving!
