This weekend I baked (okay, I molded the dough for) a crostata. In recent years I have come to appreciate hard crusty Italian desserts. They are a great pick-me-up and they are very soothing for your stomach. My favorite type of desserts are wet and gooey, like banana cream pudding, or soft, like tiramisu, but these simple dry things have been life-saving at times. It’s hard to describe the pleasure of them, coming from the gooey dessert side. They are a more doable, approachable, daily snack that goes great with espresso.

Here is a picture of my finished piece. The design is abstract circles. At first, I tried to make a lattice out of the dough pieces, but without a flat surface it was impossible.
