Journal 44 Predictive Text, Pomelos, Sewing

The clouds have been clearing and the sun has been shining more! Hurray! The sky in New Jersey is so pretty in spring, summer, and autumn. In winter, it is always just white. I don’t think any type of weather is ugly, but it does have an effect on my mood. I'm so happy to see sun again. Tonight, it is a cold night at 23F/-5C.

Some new software stuff has been bugging me. In my text editor, I had to turn off a new thing called “predictive text”. Who can type like that? For example, I would type, “When it rains...” the text would recommend, “...it pours.” Why? Who needs this? Maybe this is helpful for non-native speakers. I know it would have helped me when I was learning another language. Back then, I even relied on a similar technology. But for the native speaker, do you actually need predictive text or commonly used word recommendations to say “Honey, can you please pick up some milk at the store?” I just play with those commonly used word recommendations to see what other people are saying. You can make a whole paragraph. Some of the auto recommendations are enlightening!

I have been considering starting seeds, but I’m scared to grow anything in this house. Plants, sourdough starter, or a baby. I have wanted to make sourdough bread for a long time, but I think of the biome in this house and it turns me off.

Lately, I have been really enjoying pomelos! They are so huge that they are so delightful to look at and eat. I ate my first pomelo only last year. When I eat it, I don’t want to waste any of it, so I try to eat the pith, but it's so chewy that it takes a long time! Apparently, you can cook it?

And I have been working slowly on larger goals, even if every day I can only do a tiny step. One of the things I want to do for 2025 is repair and sew clothes. It feels like a lofty goal, because I never have time, I am overwhelmed, and I am paranoid about strings because they can seriously harm cats (I plan to be ridiculously careful). But I find that even if you are overwhelmed, you need to press on with doing new things. Somehow, it helps.

For me, this isn’t totally new. I know how to sew from my mother, so I will just jump in with something simple, like repairing a seam on a sheet. But I have never made clothes before, only blankets and costumes. Hopefully soon, I will make simple basics like underwear and t-shirts. Wish me luck!

As always, thank you for reading. Please do something new that expands your brain!
