Journal 9

My week was busy as always. This weekend I took a Saturday trip to Ikea because we desperately needed window shades to help deal with the heat. Did you know windows are responsible for like 65% of heat loss? People worry about cracks but windows need more attention. My favorite time to go to Ikea is early in the middle of the week: you get some designers, leisurely moms, and cool weirdos. Sometimes cool weirdo leisurely moms who are designers. Sometimes late Friday nightalso draws an interesting crowd, but there are also pissy people who don't want to be there so late. Anyway I ended up there on a Saturday in the middle of the day and it was rough. It was an odd crowd. Even worse, many males were covered in wretched perfumes and the heat did not help with the smell.

Besides dealing with gross males, I noticed something sad among the females. There were many teen girls with their mothers shopping for college supplies. And there was a similar thing amongst nearly all of them: The mothers looked like they hated their daughters. They looked so angry. Why? It was so sad. Are the older women jealous? Angry? Bitter? Resentful? In this society that shrinks young women's worlds as soon as they become young adults, I can understand how the women's lives could have been altered and how now they have painful memories. I can understand if negative feelings such as jealousy can come up. But those feelings need to be worked through and settled. If those feelings start to affect how you treat your child, that's loser-ish and pathetic.

And another thing: lots of boys would like to decorate their own dorm rooms too. While nowhere near the level of the girls' pain, the boys sometimes get some shit too. "Don't worry honey, after Sally and I are done at Target, I'll buy your stuff at Discount World!" "Thanks mom the only thing I want is a forest green tablecloth in a textured weave to entertain my friends." "Look honey it's not green how you wanted but it's got Chinese dragons on the corners! It was only $0.25! They had green Chinese dragons for $0.50 but I know you don't care." "Thanks mom..."

Originally it was going to be just me at Ikea but the olds joined me. I didn't mind, they can be useful in situations involving contested pricing of discounted merchandise. On the way back, I sat in the backseat of the coupe car. The olds rolled down the windows all the way and consequently I ate some delicious road dust. YUMMM surprisingly the Parkway tasted better than 280! (laughcry) A day in the life...

But what do I do to keep my sanity? I treated myself to 50 pounds of beautiful organic potatoes!!! Life is easier to take on knowing you have 50 pounds of potatoes.

Have a great week and please stay safe!
